On Tuesday 28th January pupils from
Broadford Primary School took part in the Young Voices Choir concert at the 02
Arena in Greenwich, London. A total of 25 children participated, who make up
the key stage 2 choir at the school, and they all sang their hearts out whilst
proudly waving their banner.
Young Voices is the largest school choir organiser
in the world and currently organises over 14 concerts a year in the UK &
Ireland’s leading Arenas. Each year over 2,500 schools, 90,000 children 6,000 teachers
and 120,000 family and friends come together to enjoy music and celebrate
singing.
Young Voices believes in working with new, up and
coming artists from all aspects of the musical spectrum. This year the
children’s choir were joined on stage by Wayne Ellington, Keith Semple and
Stacey Solomon who sang a song from her new album. Pupil Maria Paius, aged nine, said her
favourite part of the performance had been ’You raise me up’ which was sung
with Wayne Ellington, one of the UK’s leading gospel singers and director for Manchester’s Sing
Out Choir.
Deputy Headteacher Lois Nicholls said: “We have
been rehearsing for the concert since September and everyone has been so
excited in the run up to the event. The atmosphere at the O2 arena was
absolutely amazing and it is something the children will never forget.”
Year 5 pupil Tolu Erinle, aged nine, said “I had a
fantastic because there were so many people to meet at the event, singing at
the 02 has built up my confidence and I felt really emotional.”
The Young Voices concert will definitely be a
regular event on the school annual calendar and the highlight of the year for
the choir.
