Foundation Bug Experience

For the past couple of weeks, foundation stage has been investigating bugs. The Nursery made some delicious spider cookies however when we arrived they had disappeared-they ate all of them. They also made some spider webs. They used: Marbles, paint and glitter. Some of the children found locust, spiders, snails and woodlice. Both Reception classes found slugs, snails, caterpillars and flies. Also they made models of bugs using: Clay, paint (which were yellow, black, red, orange, grey and blue) and plastic eyes. Every day the teachers put in new leaves for the caterpillars and snails as well as watching them all grow and shed skin. The receptions drew a life cycle of a caterpillar and know of by heart how a butterfly develops. In the Garden they have six bug houses. They have placed them in and around the bushes. They used: sticks, chicken wire, leaves, cardboard tubes, shredded paper and decorated it with a red, triangular flag.
